Inside the Pullman Sydney Penrith: TURNER's Vision for Luxury Redefined
Discover TURNER’s design for the 5-star Pullman Sydney Penrith, blending luxury, local heritage, and wellness for a unique guest experience.
The hotel makes an impressive addition to Accor's premium Pullman portfolio and raises the bar for Penrith. Three design strategies underpinned the project's success and streamlined its delivery:
Designing for Flexibility and Seamless Integration
The Pullman Sydney Penrith was designed by TURNER and documented with builder Richard Crookes Constructions before operator Accor was appointed. This pre-emptive approach provided a flexible canvas that aligned perfectly with Accor’s Pullman overlay.
TURNER’s interiors utilised a timeless palette of timber and sandstone, creating an adaptable background suitable for various brands. Collaborative workshops with Accor refined the hotel’s identity, introducing signature elements like reflective ceiling panels and a grand sweeping staircase that enhanced its sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere.
Glen Erikson, the hotel’s General Manager, praised the design, saying, “It achieves the perfect balance of contemporary sophistication and indulgence with calmness and warmth.”
Crafting Unique Guest Experiences
TURNER’s vision emphasised creating memorable moments throughout the guest journey. The design incorporates transitional spaces, such as the visually stunning staircase leading to the Marcel Bistro, with its dramatic height, glazing, and mirrored panels.
Playfully designed lift lobbies serve as multifunctional spaces that can host VIP events, eliminating the need for a dedicated executive lounge. Inspired by modernist architect Marcel Breuer, the Marcel Bistro and Tori lobby bar bring a local design narrative to life, connecting Penrith to Bauhaus influences.
The curated art collection, highlighted by TURNER’s ‘Nepean Looking Glass’ installation symbolising the nearby Nepean River, adds another layer of distinction.
Embracing Wellness and Innovation
Responding to the rising trend of wellness-focused design, TURNER integrated nature-inspired elements that evoke the Nepean River and the Blue Mountains. The building’s curved, organic forms and reflective materials echo rippling water and light.
Inside, natural materials and colours maintain this theme, providing a serene experience. The hotel offers advanced in-room wellness features, including a sleep therapy menu with customisable lighting, aromatherapy sprays, and sleep-enhancing teas.
“Wellness and hospitality are converging into a new form of design—an area we’re excited to explore,” said Janene Fowlstone, Senior Associate at TURNER.
