River Terrace is a mixed-use development in Tweed Heads that revitalises the Boat Harbour precinct, establishing it as the Southern gateway to the Tweed City Centre. Featuring ground-level retail and a diverse range of residential apartments, the project fosters community interaction and strengthens urban connectivity.
The proposal responds to the local subtropical climate, prioritising natural cross ventilation and layered facade systems to reduce heat gain. All apartments are naturally cross ventilated, and have a strong connection to the outdoor environment, offering either views over the Tweed Marina, or to the distant natural landforms Razorback & Wollumbin Mount Warning.
The facade design responds to the unique characteristics of the site, using a material palette that resonates with the area's local Indigenous history, cultural identity and natural environment. The ground plane has been designed to embrace the future vision for the boat harbour precinct, prioritising pedestrian movement and encouraging waterfront activities and connections to the maritime themes of the boat harbour.
